The purpose othis lecture was to review progress in various aspects of centrifugal compressor design and optimization. Special emphasis was put on unsteady flows and component vibration.
An introductory lecture describes the measurement techniques used in centrifugal compressors and the flow phenomena appearing from experimental observations. It is followed by a lecture on modern design and performance prediction methods.
Subsequent lectures deal with different aspects of unsteady flows and flow induced vibrations such as :
- blade vibrations and excitations due to unsteady flows;- rotordynamics with emphasis on instability problems;- flow in labyrinth seals and the effect on rotor stability; - flow in volutes and the effect of outlet distortion on impeller anq diffuser flows.
