Quick Overview

Unsteady phenomena are of paramount importance in many domains of both fundamental and applied fluid mechanics, ranging from vortex dynamics to flow on lifting surfaces and around bluff bodies.

In recent years, progress in both experimental and numerical techniques has led to a significant increase in the ability to understand and predict the most complex problems related to flow unsteadiness.

The purpose of the present lecture series was to survey the overall state of the art in the whole domain therefore a short introduction to unsteady flow phenomena was followed by specific sections devoted to the most important domains, namely flow around bluff bodies, vortex dynamics, unsteady boundary layers and by an up to date review of the available numerical and experimental techniques.

By its contents, the lecture series addressed itself to both researchers interested in keeping abreast of the latest developments in unsteady aerodynamics and industrial users confronted
with practical problems related to flow unsteadi­ness.
