Modern concepts in stability and receptivity analysis require computational methods to accurately discretize the continuous equations and to solve for the quantities of interest. These notes give an overview of the most commonly used numerical techniques for the spatial and temporal discretization of derivatives, for the decomposition into modal or singular structures, for the evolution of fluid quantities in time, and for the search of optimal solutions based on a variational principle.
